Getting started

Getting started

How does coaching actually work?
You start with a free 20-minute intro call — no assessment, no commitment, just a conversation about what is going on and whether we are the right fit. If you decide to go ahead, your first full session maps the pattern you are stuck in. From there you and your coach agree a small number of practical things to work on, and you meet regularly to practise and adjust them.
Do we have to know what our problem is before we book?
No. A lot of people arrive able to say only that something feels wrong. Working out what is actually going on is part of the job, not a prerequisite.
How long will we need?
Most couples work with us for six to ten sessions; parenting work is often four to eight. Some people come for a single session on one specific decision. We will give you an honest estimate after the first session and revisit it as we go — we would rather you stopped when you no longer need us.
Can I come on my own if my partner will not?
Yes, and it is more useful than most people expect. When one partner changes how they enter a conflict, the cycle changes. What we will not do is coach you in techniques to manage or manoeuvre your partner.
Do you work with unmarried couples, or with singles?
Both. We work with dating and engaged couples, with people who are single and want to break a pattern before it repeats, and with those recovering from a relationship that ended badly.

Sessions & practical details

Sessions & practical details

Do you coach online?
Yes. Most of our work is by secure video, which means you can be anywhere and do not lose an evening to travel. In-person sessions are available by appointment.
How long is each session?
Standard sessions are 60 minutes. Couple intensives can be booked as 90-minute blocks, which some couples prefer when there is a lot of ground to cover.
What if we need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens. Give us 24 hours where you can and there is no charge. Repeated last-minute cancellations we will talk about honestly, because they usually signal something worth discussing.
What happens between sessions?
Usually a small, specific piece of practice — a conversation to attempt, or something to notice. It is rarely more than 20–30 minutes a week. Couples who do it get noticeably more out of coaching, and we would rather be upfront about that than pretend otherwise.

Privacy & confidentiality

Privacy & confidentiality

Is coaching confidential?
Yes, with limits we will always be straight with you about. What you share stays between you and your coach, and we never use your name or story publicly without written permission. The exceptions are narrow and legally required: a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, a child or vulnerable adult at risk, or a court order. Your coach will explain these in the first session rather than bury them in a policy.
In couples work, do you keep secrets between partners?
No. If you tell your coach something individually that materially affects the work, we will encourage you to bring it into the room, and we will support you in doing that. A coach holding one partner's secret cannot help either of you.
What do you do with my data?
We collect as little as we can, keep it only as long as we need it, and never sell it or share it with advertisers. Our privacy policy sets out exactly what we hold, why, how long for, and how to get it deleted.

Scope, cost & fit

Scope, cost & fit

Is coaching the same as therapy or counselling?
No, and the distinction is important. Coaching is forward-looking and practical: it works on skills, decisions and patterns. Therapy treats mental health conditions and works with trauma, and it requires clinical training and regulation that coaching does not. Our coaches are not therapists and do not diagnose or treat. Where you need clinical care we will tell you plainly and help you find it.
When is coaching not the right choice?
Where there is abuse, coercive control or fear of your partner; where someone is having thoughts of suicide or self-harm; where untreated addiction is driving the conflict; during an unmanaged mental health crisis; or where a child may be at risk. In every one of those situations you need specialist help, not coaching — and our Get help now page lists where to find it.
What does it cost?
The intro call is free. After that, current rates are listed on each programme page. We operate a sliding scale and no one is turned away for cost — if the fee is the obstacle, say so on the intro call and we will work it out.
Are you faith-based?
We are faith-friendly, which is different. If your faith shapes how you think about marriage and family, that is welcome and we work within it. If it does not, nothing in our approach depends on it and you will not be preached at. You set that boundary, not us.
